Review of Rendition (2007) by Julie F — 03 Feb 2009
A great conversation piece!!! I appreciated the movies attempt to present the logic of both sides. Meryl was fabulous in her defense of the practice, while Jake was equally fabulous being in WAY over his head.
The director's choice of how to parallel the stories was not expected and well executed. It must be a difficult decision to make regarding how much of the violence too show. Too much and it becomes gratuitous, none at all makes it unreal.
The scene in the hole was probably the most powerful and discomforting scene of all. And then there was Reese. The manner with she balanced her loyalty and dedication with the smallest seed of doubt was exquisite.
The performances were strong, even some of the (sorry for the term) smaller roles. Lastly, I loved the use of color in the movie. The icy blues of the US Government scenes and the warm earth tones of "the country" were effective as the movie maneuvered through the generational and political components of the story.
