Review of Renaissance (2006) by Jonathan A — 26 Jun 2008
Entertaining, rotoscoped neo-noir thriller about a detective searching for an abducted woman and the secret behind her. Visually stunning in it's profound use of contrasting black and white that reminds one of graphic novels as much as "Sin City".
Unfortunately, amidst the great, blazing action sequences, the plot lost me along the second half with it's pacing and occasionally stiff acting which made it hard for the viewer to distinguish personalities from one another.
I would like to see it again at some point, but the film made a rather dubious first impression on me, like "A Scanner Darkly". Or maybe I just have bad luck with rotoscoped films.
