Review of Renaissance (1970) by Steve F — 25 Apr 2008
The story was unfortunately unoriginal, with many plot points that you can predict based on the last 70 years of film history.
However...if all you know of cinema is what's come out in the last 5 - 10 years, you may be genuinely surprised.
The strength of this movie is the visual aspect. It takes the film noir science fiction concept and creates a breath-taking world that you find fascinating and captivating. I also want to mention that the casting was great, with Daniel Craig performing a very subtle tough-guy detective role, and Jonathan Pryce being unrecognizable as the villain.
And finally, the score was a huge highlight; it's clear that this film was crafted very delicately and deliberately, and should be judged on the effort.
