Review of Remember the Night (1940) by Robert M — 07 Dec 2009
This was a cute holiday film I'd never heard of. But thanks to constant monitoring of TCM, I'm able to catch these gems. Stanwyck and McMurray have great chemistry and it's nice to see them genuinely romantic and not scheming (Double Indemnity).
Both are perfectly charming and engaging. The supporting cast is perfect and it only took me a minute to recognize the amazing Sterling Holloway. This has Preston Sturges written all over it; though, it is evident he didn't direct it.
Had he directed it, this would probably have been a five star film. The ending is a bit abrupt, but it's extremely honest to character growth and to the romance. I liked that part of it. Worth watching with a glass of wine and a fire burning.
