Review of Remember (2015) by Lee H — 12 Dec 2016
A wannabe revenge drama starring the always reliable Christopher Plummer, who portrays a German senior citizen suffering from dementia and the recent loss of his wife who is recruited by a fellow patient at a senior citizen at his retirement home to go after a former Nazi officer responsible for the murder of his family during the occupation which leads to a somewhat surprising conclusion if undeserved given the plodding nature of the majority of the film.
There is no major tension which seems to be the big issue with the film despite the fact Plummers character memories ebb and flow for the majority of the proceedings and relies on the occasional sign ins with his handler fellow senior citizen Martin Landau, and the letter the Landau has written for him.
Also the material has been played out so much one way or another to much greater effect in terms of people going out for vengence for war crimes would take something much more special to make Remember bounce off the page.
Disappointing not that I was expecting much since it has been quite some time since an out of the park film from Egoyan.
