Review of Religulous (2008) by Lauren C — 11 May 2010
I think Maher half wanted this to be a hard hitting and poignant documentary and half wanted it to be a comedy. Thats how I found it anyway, but it was a very enjoyable film. Maher interviews a variety of people and always changes his approach, sometimes just letting the people spew bollocks until they trip themselves up.
He doesnt take any argument that far, each interview kind of ends with a punchline, sometimes made by the religious folk to which Maher just stares in amazement as they realise what they've said. He brings up lots of important points, most probably wont be new to anyone who enjoys dirtying their hands in the religious debate, but its really great to see them put to all these variety of people of a variety of faiths.
