Review of Religulous (2008) by Gordon B — 27 Jan 2011
Strangely unaffecting preaching to the choir (haha) that I found alternately too confrontational in Maher's very obvious dismissal yet not nearly confrontational enough in Maher's "it's okay, I'll humor you" attitude.
Not at all balanced between the various religions that he brings up (either choose Christianity as the single subject or do a better job of divying up the running time). Completely unmotivated meta-documentary moments of showing Maher in front of the camera and boom mic (was this meant to be some kind of commentary on transparency?).
I just found the whole thing kind of annoying, which is a shame considering how much I generally agree with both his viewpoints and his approach. Two stars for the fact that it IS often funny and some of the segments are intriguing.
Call me when James Randi or another skeptic with some balls and something interesting/new to say decides to make a documentary.
