Review of Reign of Fire (2002) by Robert H — 21 Sep 2010

I love post apocalypse movies and I love dragons so putting the two together was like a wet dream come true. Visually this film is gorgeous. Dark and grimy, covered in dirt and soot the set designs totally made sense. I still don't understand how a dragon can essentially wipe out a planet. They try to explain it away as nobody believed what it was until it was too late. But would not a giant dragon show up on every radar/satellite/tracking system? Would not the army/air forces have been scrambled right away? And where did all the dragon eggs come from? The male fertilizes the eggs of the females, but where did the eggs come from? Are the eggs all over the earth and we just don't recognise them? Or if there was only one dragon and it was male... does he also have eggs? If he does, why have females at all?

Just too many questions for it to entirely work for me. I had to remove a point from my rating for that but I added a half point for the crazy McConaughey jump at the end.
