Review of Reign of Assassins (2010) by Mel C — 21 Oct 2010
Yep, this is the best ancient kung fu legend movie I have seen! Personally I found it much better than Crouching Tiger.. Not as grand as the Red Cliff duo but the story and plot is so amazing, epic, beautifull and heartbreaking! It's actuaaly all about the seperated remains of an ancient Kung Fu master of which at this time you could extract the most powerfull fighting mastery when thetwo pieces are comined again. We follow the life of Zeng Jing, how she deserted the powerfull Black Stone's clan, renewing her life, settling down. So she peculiarly meets Jiang A-sheng, destined to be married. But her old life catches up and she must confront her husband with this, who also has a big secret. The plotline is realy breathtaking! From beginning to end we get skilled, absolutely fine martial arts-fights combined with inventive witchcraft-like magic. Never have I seen the stuntcord hidden so well (unlike in Croaching...) I realy sat on the tip of my chair (laying down ofcourse) when the most exciting majestic fights took place, and for what cause! Ofcourse everything is authentic, wardrobe, the buildings, gorgeous and large in number attributes, very much detailed cinematography, even the speech is made more authentic! Also very beautifull sceneries and settings! Each character has its flare and special in this one, it's secrets, which can be called mindblowing!
Realy worth the watch!!
