Review of Reflections in a Golden Eye (1967) by Luke M — 16 Aug 2007
This film, along with FREUD, is arguably one of John Huston's greatest, and most tragically ignored films. Originally set to star Montgomery Clift, who sadly passed away a month before filming, the film is about the events that lead to a murder one summers night on an army base in the South.
Brando as ever is excellent, and Taylor gives a strong performance. The recent release on dvd has restored the original golden tint to the film that was originally removed from the theatrical release, as it did not go down well in focus groups.
One of my favourite Brando films, and I consider myself to be a Brando connoisseur - however I still wish that Clift had managed to survive long enough to make this film, that would have been a thing of beauty.
