Review of Reel Paradise (2005) by Dane J — 20 Mar 2005
The first 6 hour in a theater day. I started off with a colletion of shorts. Almost all of them were fucking fantastic. I especially remember the Raftman's Razor, a short about a couple goofy kids and the odd comic that they idolize. I guess I heard they hope to make it into a full lenth feature if they get the money.
Then I wandered around town a little bit because it turned out to be a little warmer then I thought. After that I headed back to the Alamo Downtown to check out.
Hooligans.
Hooligans is the 3rd movie by a European Director named Lexi Alexander. It was really good. I dont want to give away the plot of the movie, but its baisc premise is about an american who ends up in a firm, which is baiscally a British Fan Club, only if the Fan Clubs beat the shit out of other fan clubs. At the end of the movie, You basically want to beat the shit out of anything.
Afterwards I only had a few minutes and went to rush over to the Paramount to watch Reel Paradise. Another documentary, it was incredibly funny for being such a candid movie. Its about Independent Producer John Pierson who moves his family to Fiji for a year to show free movies on an island.
The last movie I caught that night was back at the Alamo Downtown where I saw the debut of Child Star staring Dave Foley and a few other people including the director. It was kindve a movie making fun of Hollywood and parodying it, but at the same time it was really serious. I think thats why I had mixed reactions after seeing it. On the one hand the parody stuff was really good but then it kindve started taking itself too seriously. In the end it seems alot like a dark comedy but it didnt know when to be serious or funny and the transitions in between were bad. However the story itself was pretty good.
