Review of Reds (1981) by Jeff W — 02 Oct 2007
Brilliant story/script/everything about the wave of revolution sweeping the world in 1917 an d it's subsequent ebb. Masterfully dramatizes the beginnings of the revolutionary socialist movement in the United States and the initial successes of the Russian Revolution (hinting at its unravelling and degenration).
Basically, this movie is at the peak of the 'New Hollywood' stuff in terms of quality and its about some of my heroes, add it doesn't shy away from some fairly esoteric debates going on within the socialist movement, yet it doesn't seem like a propaganda piece to me.
