Review of Reds (1981) by Eunice D — 02 Jan 2009
One of my favorite films of all time. A labour of love from Warren Beatty. Powerful, moving, interesting, personal, cute, beautiful, heart-wrenching, and amazingly photographed by the incomaprable Vittorio Storraro.
Diane Keaton, Jack Nicholson, and Warren do amazing work in this portrait of the labour movement, the avant garde movement, and the god-damned Russian Revolution. The people in this film lived in much more interesting times than we do.
A celebration and a condemnation of collectivism, a close-up view of a complicated relationship, and an insider's view of one of the 20th Centuries most important events. If I ever meet Warren Beatty, I will kiss his feet for this film.
