Review of Reds (1981) by Eric G — 06 May 2010
Epic love story tracing of the lives of American communist activists John Reed and Louise Bryant set against the backdrop of the Bolshevik revolution. Warren Beatty is full of charisma and charm here while Diane Keaton is wonderful too, Jack Nicholson gets all the best lines though in his cameo appearance as playwright Eugene O'Neill and he hits them straight out of the park.
The film was nearly spoiled for me by the unnecessary witness interviews interspersed between scenes, it damaged the flow and wasn't required anyway as the story being depicted was more than adequate to get the details and sentiment across.
Communism eh, it would be quite a good idea if it allowed for human nature.
