Review of Reds (1981) by Existen Z — 01 Mar 2008
Don't have much to say about this one. It was ok overall. The acting, writing, etc. were nothing spectacular. Granted it was based on actual events, somehow the movie still didn't convey the full drama in some of the most important parts.
It especially sold the Russian Revolution short. It did nail the drama in the soap opera that was Jack Reed and Louise Bryant, but I don't much care for soap operas. Kudos for the interviews with the people that knew the real life characters.
It was also nice that at least some of the philosophy of the groups involved was maintained. While it seemed to be very accurate to what probably actually happened, no one is going to watch this and be converted to radically liberal politics.
