Review of Reds (1981) by Daniel V — 02 Jan 2014
Voted by AFI as one of the top ten epics of all time. It's pretty epic alright. Nearly 3 1/2 hours worth of epic. The story takes place in 1915 when communism is just an ideal that is about to become a political movement.
Warren Beatty directed and starred in this politically charged epic of a journalist who turned into a hero for the communist/socialist movement. The only American buried in the Kremlin, which is very high honor.
Diane Keaton is brilliant, Jack Nicholson is amazing and this movie is never dull. Slow maybe but never dull. Ironic how a movie subject can be so relevant in 1915, 1980, and now in 2014.
