Review of Redbelt (2008) by Dean M — 06 Apr 2009
I had a couple issues with the triumphant, but quick resolution to the story that left quite a few questions unanswered and the other was with how sloppy the camera was during the final fight scenes. However the strength of Redbelt isn't in the fighting, but in Chiwetel Ejiofor's presentation of its main character.
Ejiofor compresses a multitude of emotions into his character's stoicism that he can calmly express his frustration at how easily the influence of money corrupts his honorable intentions for the people he cares about and yet is able to handle his emotions and stick to his code like a true martial artist.
Not the best martial arts movie out there, but it's better to watch if you want to get a greater handle on the mindset of a martial artist and the application of his philosophy to overcoming his life's problems.
