Review of Red State (2011) by Tazio G — 18 Mar 2013
Joseph Keenan: People just do the strangest things when they believe they're entitled. But they do even stranger things when they just plain believe.
"Fear God".
This wasn't as shocking as I heard it to be or nearly as good. The direction Kevin Smith is taking is definitely a interesting one with a look at the controversial Westboro baptist church. I think it starts out as a good little horror movie in a way and eventually fades into an action packed second half, which I thought began to lose it's focus. The casting is very good with strong performances by John Goodman, Melissa Leo & Church maniac, Michael Parks. There are some plot details that I can't discuss without spoiling but sometimes you'll be rubbing your heard with some certain actions made and details being explained vaguely. It's a very different movie from Kevin Smith that I enjoyed for the most part.
