Review of Red State (2011) by Sonny D — 21 Apr 2013
This is Kevin Smith's lazy attempt to vent his dislike of religion and authority. I liked Clerks a lot and Kevin Smith's other movies are decent, but this was just garbage. It's Hostel meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Waco. Aside from the weak story and lack of character purpose I guess I can say I WAS able to sit through all 97 minutes of it. There's also a part in the movie where a guy get's shot while hiding in a room by himself and when one of the crazies starts kicking his corpse, there is miraculously 2 dead bodies there. WTF?? The ending contains a semi-twist that is so dumb John Goodman's character has to spend 5 minutes explaining what happened. Overall I would rate this as 'eye-crossingly dull'.
I hope, somewhere, there's a person who is now enjoying my 15 dollars more than I did.
