Review of Red State (2011) by Chris E — 16 May 2012
FINALLY!!!! Something to wash the taste of "Copout" out of my mouth. Its a bit of a stretch to say that the message of the film would be interpreted as nonbelievers should stay silent. No, not at all.
I think its a pretty taut, tight, and inventive. For years, I've made numerous complaints to Smith that he should be doing something new, as opposed to doing the same movies with the same old toilette humor--not that I have a problem with it, its just gets old after the umpteenth time.
Its kind of sad to say that this is his penaltamate film to be completed before he calls it a career. I know this because he had said this at a Q&A for his DVD "Kevin Smith: Burn in Hell" where he recounts his trials against the West borough Baptist Church when taking passing this movie along in the festival circuit.
