Review of Red State (2011) by David B — 22 Dec 2014
My expectations of this movie were not high, having read or listened to numerous bad or indifferent reviews. Happily, I think they got it very wrong. The movie takes pot shots at both Christian Fundamentalism and the Police.
While I loved all his stoner movies, I think this shows Kevin Smith in a more intelligent and questioning light. The fact that some critics including the RT review says there are not enough scares or thrills, shows a complete lack of understanding.
He was not attempting to make a ramboesque movie, but a comment on modern America. Some Great acting, especially from Melissa Leo and John Goodman.
