Review of Red Road (2006) by Jarrin R — 23 Mar 2008
Andrea Arnold's debut feature is a gutsy attempt to combine naturalistic low-budget filmmaking with pulpy subject matter more befitting an Ashley Judd vehicle. Kate Dickie's lead performance suggests unfathomable reserves of anguish with potent subtlety.
Red Road is a surprisingly hard-hitting revenge drama with an admirable commitment to realism, emotional complexity, and moral ambiguity.
