Review of Red Road (2006) by Robert B — 08 Mar 2014
Jackie works as a CCTV operator monitoring the streets for illegal behaviour. Eventually Jackie starts to follow the movements of a specific man using the city cameras. Her behaviour and obsession becomes moer involved and more erratic. We aren't given her motivations for doing this until the end of the film, but my guess wasn't far off.
The pacing is a bit of a turnoff, but the acting is top-notch. It's a worthwhile film that I would recommend, but keep in mind that there are 10 minute sequences with no dialogue. Normally, this kind of thing doesn't put me off - but the unattractive camerawork and direction make it less, shall we say, effective.
I'm curious to see more work from the director.
