Review of Red River (2011) by Nate W — 14 Aug 2011
Howard Hawkes employs a Fordian aesthetic to tell the story of an epic cattle drive in "Red River", but the themes of masculine interaction and father-son subconscious are his own. John Wayne is terrific in a less heroic role than he was used to, playing a tyrannical cattle herder whose short patience and stubborn ways clash tersely with his adopted son's more compassionate sensibilities, ruggedly embodied by Montgomery Clift.
