Review of Red Riding Hood (2011) by Kevin R — 26 Nov 2011
Don't talk to strangers, go get water, and come straight home.
A medieval village is plagued by a legendary werewolf. The local town's people initially resort to force unsuccessfully and then turn to a local expert. Neither method captures the werewolf. In the end, a local village girl, who happens to be caught in a love triangle, may be the village's only hope.
"The only life I want is with you.".
Catherine Hardewicke, director of Lords of Dogtown, Twilight, The Nativity Story, and Thirteen, delivers Red Riding Hood. The storyline for this picture is fairly straightforward but contains interesting characters and a unique "who done it" element that is surprisingly entertaining. The cast delivers better than anticipated performances and the cast includes Amanda Setfried, Lukas Haas, Gary Oldman, Max Irons, Billy Burke, and Virginia Madsen.
"We must find it in its human form.".
We found this DVD at my mother in-law's house and I remembered being excited to see this when the previews initially aired; however, the reviews prevented me from seeing this picture. I will say the two lead male characters drove me crazy (way too much gel in their hair for "woodsmen"); however, I tried to get past that and enjoy the movie. I will say the "who-done-it" aspect as well as the poor man's Sleepy Hollow feel worked for me. I do recommend giving this film a shot.
"You cannot hide from me.".
Grade: B.
