Review of Red Planet (2000) by Branden D — 08 Jun 2010
A criminally underrated science fiction masterpiece. Red Planet has received far too much bad press and it deserved none of it. This film is a fascinating, suspenseful, and smart human drama that is underappreciated for all the wrong reasons.
Because of this films lack of aliens and hi-tech violence, people have looked down on this little gem of a movie. No one seems to appreciate the story and characters in this finely crafted sci-fi drama.
Red Planet requires your attention and focus so you'll appreciate everything that is happening on screen and who it is happening to. The performers are exceptional, especially Carrie-Anne Moss and Tom Sizemore.
Val Kilmer is superb in the lead role and Terence Stamp is of course amazing despite his short screen time. Red Planet deserves to be appreciated far more than it is. I consider this film to be a sci-fi classic and one of the most underrated films I have ever seen.
It's clever and complex.
