(2012) Red Lights.
MYSTERY SUPERNATURAL DRAMA.
Skeptic professor Margaret Matheson(Sigourney Weaver) and protégé Tom Buckley(Cillian Murphy) make a living disproving ESP and other psychic phenomena. After managing to put an evangelist to jail, Tom then goes on an obsessive witch hunt to disprove supernatural claims made by another alleged psychic veteran Simon Silver played by Robert DeNiro even though Margaret forbids him to do this.
Co-produced, edited, written and directed by Rodrigo Cortés who may had seen some of the same kind of programs/movies and looked at the same kind of books as I have, since majority of the so-called tricks shown on this film had already been revealed resulting into losing much of it's impact and credibility. From "Leap Of Faith" to Johnny Carson's exposed guest Uri Geller by magician James Randi, who proved Uri to be a fraud who eventually did an appearance on Nova, to surgically fixing someone up by using ones hands without the use of tools or prosthetics which is really the extra thumb/ finger trick has already been revealed many years ago, at least way before this movie was even made. And that the man nicknamed as the Amazing Kreskin labelled as an actual psychic- a very harmless psychic who helps authorities whenever he can is much more involving than a film that is completely made up especially when the movie "Red Lights" didn't even reveal how one of those tricks had been done. I also don't like the blatant ending which leaves viewers with more questions than it gives answers.
2 out of 4 stars.
