Review of Red Lights (2012) by Brendan N — 26 Sep 2012
This is one of those films that provides a very interesting concept but is lost in the depth of bad writing 101. a superb cast can't do much with the material but Murphy gives an appropiate underrated performance. De Niro is in Angel Heart form as the shadowary figure but its Weaver who doesn't get too much importance.
The tension is full on at times but is over done by a very complicated finale that doesn't really ring true. The film just doesn't have that kind of pace to keep you invested in the film. the thriller aspect is overally cooked and if you are into a good thriller then you may want to stay clear.
I quite liked the film for the first half but after a tricky plot point I failed to connect to the film again. the ending doesn't suit the film at all and if you are a film buff you'll see the ending coming from a mile away. the film had a lot of potential but sadly it misses the mark.
