Review of Red Lights (2012) by David M — 09 Dec 2012
Incredible. Or rather, incredibly disappointing. The movie initially shows a lot of promise but goes completely off the rails toward the end of the film. Some really solid performances not surprisingly, by Weaver and De Niro.
Even Murphy is good until he goes a bit overboard toward the end. The really frustrating thing about this film is that you can almost see that it had the potential to be a really, really good film, had they worked over the script a bit more and/or put a little more thought into editing.
I think the downfall was the overemphasis on misdirection (to facilitate the surprise ending) which ultimately kills the film itself. Quite a shame.
