Review of Red Hill (2010) by Alan L — 21 Oct 2011
Ryan Kwanten went back home during his time off from True Blood to make this Aussie modern day 'Western'. He's engaging as a city cop who, having moved to a quiet country town, finds himself caught up in a battle between the locals and a convicted killer who has just escaped from prison, seeking revenge.
Sounds promising, but 'Red Hill' is a let-down. What should be an exciting thriller is just predictable. As soon as you see that the escapee is of aboriginal extraction you know that he can't be as bad as the locals make out.
Kwanten is good and the Victorian scenery is lovely to look at, but overall 'Red Hill' is disappointingly average.
