Review of Red Eye (2005) by Alex M — 31 Mar 2013
Cillian Murphy has long been one of my favorite current actors, and this was the movie that first established why. He's just really great here, super smarmy and an utter creep (although not at first), and the back and forth between Rachel McAdams (Also excellent) is really tense.
I love how the opening is basically a subdued romance, and the thriller element is treated like a first-act twist. The script is often scrambling to come up with interesting things to happen, and the ending goes totally off the rails into full-on slasher mode, but the two great lead performances carry this uniquely scary film.
