Review of Red Eye (2005) by Mrmoviebuff — 26 Feb 2017
Wes Craven's 'Red Eye' is a deeply effective and dark thriller that relies so much on easy tension without sacrificing the fast pace. Craven keeps things moving and remains for the interest of our characters on screen.
The movie stars Rachel McAdams as Lisa, a hotel manager who is boarding the Red Eye to Miami after attending her grandmother's funeral in Texas, she is off to see her father (played by Brian Cox), and on the way, she meets a strange man named Jackson (Cillian Murphy) who seems like a sincere gentleman, but that's where the fun seems to end for her.
Upon getting onto the plane, it seems that Lisa and Jackson are sitting beside each other, and Jackson seems to know every little detail about Lisa. He begins to blackmail her, and make threatening deals which puts her in a difficult position.
Lisa tries everything she can to resist, but if she doesn't do what he tells her to, her father's life is at risk, and she has very little choice. Director Wes Craven places us, the audience, in the similar place Lisa is, the unease tension and difficult getaway plans is executed effectively.
You are never uninterested in the events that occur in this film, McAdams also puts on a very concentrated and dedicated performance which is another reason to keep us watching. The combination of Craven's fast paced direction and McAdams' strong performance is what makes this movie what it is.
Not forgetting the somewhat claustrophobic atmosphere that Craven crafts when on the Red Eye. This is one of the best thrillers made.
