Review of Red Dawn (1984) by Jordan T — 19 Sep 2008
One of the first PG-13 movies and once considered the most violent film of all time (even over "Scarface"!), this is perhaps the most ludicrous movie I've ever seen. This wastes no time getting into the action, but the events that are taking place are simply outrageous.
The whole paratrooper takeover by Cuba/Russia is great, but just silly. Swayze is absolutely terrible, but then again so is everybody else in here. Lea Thompson & Jennifer Grey have really pointless roles and are only there to show women can fight communism too.
A horrible script, but that should be expected from the guy who later gave us "Waterworld." However, a lot of the dialogue is unintentionally hilarious. Overall this film is dumb and runs way too long, but I realize this movie may have had a greater impact on me if I lived during the Soviet paranoia age.
Did I mention this is being remade with a post 9/11 spin? I can't make that up and I will go see it.
