Review of Red Dawn (1984) by Indike W — 24 Oct 2009
Just after Swayze's passing, I read somewhere that this was ranked as one of his best movies. I was sure I've watched this before, but thought I'd give it another go. So this being his fourth movie and that it was released in '84, I didn't really expect all that much.
Plus looking back at the cast, I was kinda surprised to see Sheen that young, among a few others, and also the forgotten B-movie front-runner C. Thomas Howell. Either way, it was as good (or bad) as expected with a lot of bad acting, poor action sequences (if not overdone) and bad sound editing.
Although it was released during bad times in the US, the movie ended up doing pretty well I suppose. So much so that a remake is scheduled for release next year, starring the gorgeous Isabel Lucas (Transformers 2) & Adrianne Palicki (Supernatural), which I will be looking forward to watch.
Going back, though, I remember enjoying "Toy Soldiers" much more than this, so I think I'll have another look at that sometime soon, hopefully.
