Review of Red Dawn (1984) by Sage H — 30 Aug 2013
Going into this move and realizing the concept of it, I was sure to expect some cool actions scenes and memorable moments through solid actors giving their performances their all. I was definitely wrong.
I felt the actors didn't give their performances nearly as much as they should, especially for such a serious role. I had no emotional connection to any of the characters and could really care less if any of them survived.
The action was not impressive either. Lazy action sequences that didn't give you enough of what you came here for. And I knew this whole concept would not be believable but seriously, they took it way to far.
Having teenage highschool sweethearts dispatching fully grown and fully trained military officers was enough to get me to push the power button on my tv. I'm ok with movies not being realistic but this was just atrocious.
They cut scenes off way too quickly and had some very awkward and unusual moments with the characters and actors. And for a movie that spanned over months in its storyline you found out that nothing much really happened.
It truly is as if a highschooler wrote this film for a fiction history report. And like I said the action was as bland as you can get like a bitter taste you just could not get out of your mouth. Sure I was not a highschooler growing up in the 80s but if I was I still probably would have not been impressed at all with this film.
Especially with all of the other movies that came out in that decade. And not to mention the movie just "ended". Probably one of the worst endings in cinematic history but what could you expect with such a concept and weak storyline.
I could only see adults who grew up in the 80s would like and accept this movie for what it is but the rest of us could easily just skip it. Unless you have some agenda on your bucket list that allows you to see every film that was released in the 80s there is really no real reason to give this movie a shot.
A complete cheezefest, and I love cheese. I just couldn't connect with this film. I really really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't.
