Review of Red Cliff (2008) by Joni K — 12 Oct 2009
This movies actually came out last year as a two part series. The US release had it trimmed down and condensed this version with I and II put together. I saw the Magnolia cut with my good friend Ric Meyers a month ago.
It was great to have him explain the movie to me and my friends. First all, if you are going to see this movie, please do a wikipedia search on the charcters of Red Cliff! It will give you a better understanding of the storyline.
These characters are famous in Chinese history, you probably saw their statues in Chinatown antique shops Back to the movie, its great to see John Woo return to Chinese cinema. A John Woo without bullets but alot of arrows instead! This is also a great war strategy film too.
Fights/Battle sequences are amazing, well done choreographed by Corey Yuan. It was disappointing that Magnolia had the cut some of the battle scenes. Still a terrific movie to watch on the big screen.
After movie, go the Asian websites to buy Chinese Red Cliff dvds!
