Review of Red Cliff (2008) by Jamie M — 22 Mar 2010
When I first heard that they were making this movie that showcases my favorite time period and subject matter I was super excited. This movie certainly didn't let me down. There is so much history to this era, so many stories and characters to tell and introduce, and this was one of the most memorable and crucial battles of them all.
It was truly epic watching all the events unfold. The battle scenes were mindblowingly epic. The action was really intense, but some of the best sequences were when the actual strategy came together and seeing the formations come together was really amazing.
There was some great work there to put it all together and make it all look so natural. But even without the huge battle sequences the rest of the movie was still great, especially watching the interactions between Zhou Yu and Zhuge Liang.
They were such high intellectuals and watching their plans come to fruition was absolutely delightful. My only problems with the film was that some of the transitions were a little kitschy. They could have been done a little better.
And the awkward, rather unnecessary sex scene didn't need to be there either, but given how high of a quality the rest of the film was I'll allow it.
