Why epic? Why historical? It is just a good battle movie that tries to resemble an historical war from the imagination of the writer and a big budget. Characters are constructed like anime heroes with specific powers and features.
Situations and details are too fictional while the main story may resemble the real thing. Customs and panoramic views are sensational, but also feel a little artificial.
