Review of Red Cliff (2008) by Josh O — 31 Dec 2011
Epic in every sense of the word and John Woo's much needed return to form. Though not amazing it is very theatrical. Possibly the most expansive film to come out of asia John woo's historical epic is a cinematic marvel; just the scope of the film massive size is something to gasp at.
Unfortunately with it's big set pieces and massive cast the effects and cg seemed more of an afterthought but it doesn't really matter as it doesn't take much away from the experience. Another bonus is that John Woo didn't overuse slow motion for once.
