Review of [REC] (2007) by Gabriel B — 30 Oct 2010
All you need to know is that it's a zombie flick. You need to experience everything first-hand without any spoilers or even hints of what this might be. But if you're brave enough to read on, then vamos.
A reporter for a local TV show is shooting an episode about firefighters when a distress call places them in an apartment where something spoiler something. Later, they go on lockdown when some people start manifesting undead qualities. It's not all run scream run though but with a TV reporter as our protagonist, we get to know who the other people in the apartment are and we start picking up and placing the pieces together to solve this mystery before time, yes cliche here, runs out. And, of course, the film is recorded thru the video cam of the reporter's cameraman. That doesn't only make the film really special but definitely gives you the feel of being inside that dreaded apartment.
It's perfect for me from the acting, realistic interactions of characters scared to death, suspense, shock, chills, and the mystery of this mysterious illness that isn't really what you would expect. It runs for under eighty minutes making the film timely-paced with no moment put to waste. The unknown can and will instill the greatest of all fears.
