Review of [REC] (2007) by Peter A — 24 Apr 2012
I have to be completely honest here, I haven't seen that many foreign films. Yet, I absolutely LOVE REC. The premise of this moive is that a reporter and a cameraman are covering the night shift at the local firehouse when they are called out to an apartment complex.
When they go to the complex, the firemen try to rescue the old lady that they were told was trapped in her apartment. What they find is far more horrific than they could've immagined, now they are locked in the apartment complex with no way out along with military outside the building, willing to kill anyone who attempts to escape.
Some people do not like films that are filmed in this sort of mockumentary style of filming, but for me it adds tension. You can only see what the camera sees, for all you know there could've been a ghost right behind the cameraman the whole time, you woldn't know unless the camera showed it.
To put it in laymans terms, think Blair Witch Project with zombie-ish virus. The acting from the whole cast is tripple-a, no one overacts or acts too monotone, you believe these people were real at one point and that this actually happened (Trust me, it's all fake, this didn't really happen).
The lack of music and the clausterphobia adds to the tension that I believe this film was going for. Don't complain that you can't find this on DVD, its online. Anyone who is a fan of these type of mockumentary or zombie films, this should be a required viewing.
