Review of Rebel Without a Cause (1955) by Nguyen Thuy H — 13 Dec 2012
This film defines the culture of the 1950s. It has many symbolic references such as Plato going to the planetarium. Where the end of his world is going to occur. As he first saw the end of the world at the planetarium.
As well as the scene which says how insignificant humans are, this rings through the heads of Jim, Plato and ruby. Another great symbolism of the film is when Jim's dad puts his jacket on his son.
Symbolizing his willingness to be a father. Just as Jim and ruby had taken on a mother - father role with Plato. Who donned Jim's jacket and took of his dad as his dad was never there for him, he finally had a father figure.
The film is engaging, culturally important and symbolizes themes in a way only few films can. One of my favourite films.
