Review of Rebel Without a Cause (1955) by Jerry N — 05 Jan 2009
A "Blackboard Jungle" for the well-heeled and buttoned-down. Dean hams enough to be spotted in a 50s middle America's telescopic line-up, but nowadays his amoeba-furtive Actor's Studio performance looks more like a walk-on in a Boy Band video.
The strokes are broad here, the Cinemascope now illiquid, the parental blame aspect institutionalized. The result of mid-century Warner Bros coolhunting.
