Review of Rear Window (1954) by Grant G — 21 Jul 2012
A much smaller film (played out upon only one set) but much more satisfying. This screenplay is not regarded as highly as North By Northwest (by the Writers' Guild of America), but it seems far better in my opinion.
I watched the local Vancouver, BC screening last night at Pacific Cinà (C)mathèque and this 1954 film still has legs! It had our audience run through the course of emotions and thoughts. As P.C. puts it, "[Rear Window] is a suspense thriller, a romance, and an extended, cautionary meditation on voyeurism and cinema, all rolled into one extraordinary and inexhaustible whole" (July + August 2012).
