Review of Rear Window (1954) by Brett W — 10 Dec 2013
Hitchcock's best film. Good lord, this movie has one of, if not THE, best nail-biting sequences of all film history. Jimmy has affable charisma as a likable photographer turned voyeur, Grace Kelly is marvelous as his plucky, stylish girlfriend, Thelma Ritter is great as the finicky housekeeper/neighbor, and Raymond Burr is downright terrifying as the malevolent neighbor who may have some things buried around the housing complex they all live in.
Great suspense, brilliant photography and set design, tense performances, and pitch-perfect direction make this an American classic for the ages.
