Review of Reality Bites (1994) by Lisa W — 20 Jan 2008
Okay, I don't know if it was nostalgia or what, but I effing loved it. Again. It's been 14 years since the first time and I felt like that same young woman slacking my life off in "clever clever land" watching it this time too. It's funny and sweet and pretentious and overly dramatic and cheesy just like I was. And still am mostly. It's a period piece of sorts, a coming of age story, and you've got to love it for that. Who knew remembering a Big Gulp would make me choke up?
And it's amazing how much of it was totally on the mark about the cultural bankruptcy the 90s were on the verge of. I didn't even know the REAL WORLD existed back then. It's kind of too bad it still does. Anyway, it's a fun film for the reminiscing and the "I Love the 90s" value if nothing else.
