Review of Ready to Rumble (2000) by Mike O — 16 Jul 2008
A bizarre affair...many believe this film to be one of the main factors in WCW's demise. I wouldn't go that far...what is hard to understand are the central characters, two late 20 something goons who think wrestling is real...not the most appealing to the films natural audience...i.e. wrestling fans.
The film does hold some minor pleasures, Oliver Platt is funny as the trailer park trash would-be champion trying to win back his title, family and self respect. There are some amusing gross out moments, the sight of seeing nuns singing 'Runnin' With The Devil'...but they can't save it from being pretty awful.
