Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Deirdre A — 21 Jun 2018
For the life of me, I cannot understand why the writer of the book Ready Player One, Ernest Cline, contributed to this absolutely terrible movie adaptation. The book, although chockfull of cliches and endless pop culture laundry lists, and a major character who loves Rush [gross], at least had heart and kept interest until the end.
The movies is nothing short of a mess that throws out all of the heart of the novel, reduces Wade Watt's struggle to almost nothing, completely water downs his love for Samantha, and is just a slide show of what-the-hell-is-happening-now moments.
Huge disappointment. It's not funny and it's not fun. At least the book is a layered adventure. This film is not even an interesting ad.
