Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Michael G — 21 Apr 2018
Very hokey and cheesy. This seems to be a common problem when books are adapted to movies. In order fit the time allotted all plot/character building and nuance is stripped out, leaving a cheese fest of meaningless action. Ridiculous first challenge too, likely the product of focus group panels. Oh and the stacks were particularly bad set design, the metal beams would have cost way more than the trailers. I pictured the stacks more like a trailer park version of the kowloon walled city, something the film makers have obviously never heard of or seen photos of.
Anyway, if you like extremely cheesy action movies with a barebones plot where the heros basically have smooth sailing then this is for you. If you like the hardy boys level of complexity, it's perfect!
