Review of Ray (2004) by Meryl S — 25 Apr 2011
The Hollywoodized biography of Ray Charles.
The casting was brilliant. Foxx portrayed him so well, there were scenes were you would almost think it was Charles himself.
Ray Charles was a musical genius and 2 hours of listening to his music was a fun and relaxing way to spend 3 1/2 hours of my time. (I watched the extended version...).
Foxx made up in talent where the writers and director lacked in fluid storytelling. It was almost like they people just put whatever they wanted into the film. The director takes this film into some weird areas, and I think it could have been a lot better. The only reason this movie didn't tank is because of Foxx. Had the cast anyone else, if he wasn't so damn good at playing Ray Charles, this movie would have sucked.
